Rock Thurrock

Rock Thurrock is an initiative of the BGEA and is based on the hugely successful BGEA youth outreach known as Rock the River events across Canada and the United States, where the gospel message is presented in a language that is relevant to the youth of today. Thousands of young people have made decisions for Christ during these events.

The official launch of Rock Thurrock was held on the 5th March, and was preceded by months of preparation work by the local committee working hard to spread the vision for Rock Thurrock and engage local churches in the project. Rock Thurrock carries the BGEA heart to strengthen and encourage confidence in the power of the proclaimed Gospel, and uses the language of youth - rock and hip hop music - to connect with young people.

Prayer will be an integral part of Rock Thurrock, a half-night of prayer took place on the 1st April. 'Ignite the Flame' launched the prayer strategy for Rock Thurrock. Church leaders, youth Leaders and young people were encouraged to start praying for their non-Christian friends to become Christians during Rock Thurrock. This is known as the 'Bring a Friend' prayer strategy and is a key component of every BGEA mission.

Community Action Projects' aim is for a community to be transformed through the love of Jesus, by actions and deeds. CAPs give the young people already connected with Rock Thurrock through their church youth groups the opportunity to show friends and neighbours that they are serious about their faith and are willing to get their hands and feet “dirty” for Jesus.

Rock Thurrock the main event, will take place on the 24th and 25th September. Top Christian UK music artists will be taking the Good News of Jesus to the young audience and the Gospel will be proclaimed. Before the main event, the BGEA will equip the youth in the church to share faith with others and through FM419 training, a unique BGEA discipleship and evangelism course. In addition Christian Life and Witness courses will run from Monday 6th June through to Thursday 23rd June across the borough.

Follow-Up The BGEA has an excellent reputation for follow-up and this mandate has been taken up in a serious way by the local Thurrock church leaders, who will be working to ensure that Velocity courses (the BGEA youth discipleship course) are set up across the borough. Every young person who makes a commitment to Christ will be invited to attend a Velocity course. It is vital that these young Christians are given the best start possible to their new life in Jesus.

The BGEA team and the church leaders of Thurrock are certain that 2011 will be a significant year for the borough, when many young people will have their lives turned around with the knowledge that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
